It’s that time of the year again: the ever-optimistic New Year’s Resolution time. While I don’t advocate resolutions, many people believe the New Year is the perfect time to get started, get fit, get back on the horse.
Many of us start out strong with our workout routines, but it doesn’t take long for our day-to-day lives to intrude. Meetings go late so we miss our kick-boxing class. The kids have parent-teacher night and there’s no way we can get to yoga. We catch a cold, we slip on our diet, we lose an eyelash or break a nail…the excuses start to build up and before you know it, *POOF*, our resolutions go up in flames.

As I am perpetually watching my weight, I sometimes dread the holiday season because of all of the YUMMY FOOD! Temptation abounds! My trainer has a few tips on his blog for getting through the holiday season without overindulging. These include:
Don’t try to “save calories” by starving yourself before Thanksgiving dinner! You’ll most likely just end up eating MORE.
Try to stay with your regular workout routine as much as possible during the holiday week. You’ll stay calmer and saner and be more likely to stick to your program.
Prepare your Thanksgiving feast in a healthier way, using alternatives for butter, cream, and fatty gravies and sauces.
‘Tis the season: EATING season!
From Halloween through New Year’s Day, the holidays are a minefield for those watching their weight. It’s estimated that the average American gains between 1 to 5 pounds over the holiday season, and that the weight accumulates over the years and may be a major contributor to obesity later in life. But holiday weight gain doesn’t have to be inevitable. Determination and preparation can keep you on track through even the most tempting holiday treats. Here are a few strategies to help you get through the season beautifully, healthfully, and happily!

Whenever my exercise motivation starts to lag, my first avenue of attack is to change up my music. It always spices up my workouts, and knowing I have a few great new songs to listen to makes me look forward to going to the gym, even when I’m tired. I also need a constant stream of new music ideas for putting together spinning classes. Gotta keep it FRESH!
But finding new or interesting music can be quite a challenge sometimes.
I get music ideas from all over, but usually rely heavily on the iTunes store and iMixes in particular. Recently, though, I’ve found that Blip.fm is a lot of fun, especially because so many of my brilliant and creative Twitter friends are on there. More great resources include the Jim-Fit blog, Pandora Radio, and, of course, hubby @thronkus‘s spinning classes. And then there’s always @akaMonty‘s Friday Night LIVE, but I would say that music is more what *not* to play! 😉
